HSK 5 vs HSK 6 Speaking

Both levels sit inside the same HSKK Advanced exam. Here is exactly what gets harder at HSK 6 — and how to choose your target band.

First, the good news

HSK 5 and HSK 6 speaking are not separate exams. Both are tested inside the single HSKK Advanced speaking test (the independent spoken exam, formerly the old HSK 5–6 speaking paper). The six task types — 3 listen-and-repeat, 1 read-aloud, 2 answer-questions — are identical for both. What changes is the difficulty of the prompts and the level of Chinese expected in your answers.
